How to Choose the Correct Russian Military Clothing Size

One of the most common questions we receive is how Russian military clothing sizes compare to US and European sizing.

Russian military uniforms, field clothing, camouflage suits, and tactical apparel use a different sizing system than most American brands. This guide will help you select the correct size and avoid unnecessary returns.

Step 1: Determine Your Russian Clothing Size

Russian military clothing sizes are based primarily on chest and waist measurements.

Between Sizes?

If your measurements fall between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size.

Broad chest or large belly? Always go with the larger size.

Russian military clothing is often designed to be worn over base layers, insulating garments, and field equipment.

Step 2: Determine Your Height Size

Russian military uniforms also use a height designation.

How to Measure

Measure around the widest part of your dominant hand, excluding the thumb. Keep the measuring tape snug but not tight.

Sizing Tip

If you plan to wear liner gloves underneath, consider choosing one size larger for a more comfortable fit.

Headwear (Caps, Boonie Hats, Panama Hats, Balaclavas)

Russian headwear is sized by head circumference in centimeters.

Footwear Tips

  • Summer boots generally fit true to size.
  • For winter boots or thick wool socks, consider sizing up when possible.
  • Actual foot length is more accurate than relying on your normal US shoe size.
